Farming

High quality feedstocks are vital to an efficient and productive AD plant and our expert farming team prides itself on building and nurturing good relationships with our growers, founded on trust and best practice, so that feedstocks of optimum quality are produced.

Soil Story

Soil provides a fundamental function for life, supporting the basis and foundation of the food chain as well as providing invaluable ecosystem services.

Our Team

Our farming team works with hundreds of growers every year to produce the feedstock required to operate our sites. Our team are all from agricultural backgrounds and fully understand the challenges faced by our growers day-to-day whether they be financial, agronomic or practical.

Alongside supplying our sites with crop feedstocks our growers have access to liquid and solid digestate; a valuable by-product of the anaerobic digestion process. This can be used to directly offset some of the artificial fertiliser used by our farmers across their rotation. Digestate is also useful for farmers to improve soil organic matter, nutrient status and soil microbiome.

Our expert farming team facilitates regular knowledge transfer between growers driving innovation, developing and supporting best practice.

We support farming R&D in many ways, regularly sponsoring trials with organisations such as the Maize Growers Association, organising our own internal trials and supporting PHD students with their work.

Bioenergy cropping presents an opportunity for our farmers to increase diversity within their rotation as other crops have become more agronomically challenging for them to grow. This also has the added benefit of mitigating the financial risks associated with modern day farming.

As farming in the UK transitions to a post-subsidy era and looks towards net-zero, we are certain that Anaerobic Digestion will remain an important opportunity for our farming partners and we look forward to forming new relationships with growers as our business expands.

Our Experience

Our dedicated feedstock team is what sets us apart from our competition.

Future Biogas engage with industry partners in order to maximise the sustainable cultivation of bioenergy crops.

  • Maize Growers Association

  • National Farmers Union

  • ADBA - Sustainable Bioenergy Crop Working Group

  • BIP

  • We also retain a number of professional advisors including independent agronomists, land agents and others in order to ensure our methodology is continually improving for the sake of the combined success of our business, and our growers.

  • Our feedstock team are also members of IAGrM, WCF, BASIS

Our approach to feedstock supply and our growers has been essential to the success and growth of our business to date. We also recognise that our approach to farming needs to continually adapt in order for energy cropping to stay sustainable and relevant for our growers. The most exciting recent development has been the conception of our Soil Carbon Strategy, fundamental to Project Carbon Harvest.
